Qantas A380 flew to US and back with maintenance light left in wing

Qantas, Australia’s national carrier, is facing renewed scrutiny after it was revealed an Airbus A380 completed a long-haul return journey from Sydney to Dallas with a heavy-duty maintenance light left inside its wing. The oversight was only identified upon the aircraft’s return to engineering facilities, raising significant questions regarding the airline’s stringent safety and maintenance protocols during a period of intense public focus on the brand.

This latest incident follows a similar occurrence in 2023, where a large tool was discovered inside one of the airline’s super-jumbo engines after it had already been cleared for service.
